AMHERST, Mass. 鈥 Internationally recognized climate scientist and Distinguished Professor Raymond S. Bradley at the 麻豆视频 Amherst has been elected an International Fellow in the Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences Division of the Academy of Science of the  (RSC) for 鈥渕ajor contributions to our understanding of the nature and causes of climate change.鈥

After a whirlwind weekend getting settled on campus, the university鈥檚 largest-ever incoming class 鈥 nearly 3,400 strong 鈥 took a collective deep breath at Convocation 2019.

The freshmen and new transfer students actually took several deep breaths as keynote speaker Pierce Freelon, an Emmy Award-winning producer and director, led them through a meditative exercise on overcoming adversity and achieving goals.

Of the nearly 100 campus improvement projects that  worked on over the summer, the one most likely to stop students in their tracks is the new Cumnock Courtyard.

The university has transformed the former parking lot between Cumnock, Ball and Perry halls into an inviting outdoor plaza with accessible walkways connecting the North Campus buildings. Students can now relax on courtyard benches between classes, surrounded by a well-manicured landscape of freshly planted trees and shrubs.

As the fall semester gets underway, a number of construction and campus improvement projects are progressing.

After a period of extensive outreach and careful preparation, the 麻豆视频 has launched its search for a permanent chancellor for UMass Boston with the creation of a committee that is as distinguished and diverse as the campus itself.

Faculty members form the core of the search committee, with eight of panel鈥檚 21 members holding academic positions at the University: five UMB faculty members, two UMB deans, and the vice chancellor for research at UMass Lowell.

BOSTON 鈥 The UMass Boston Chancellor Search Committee, holding its inaugural meeting, today launched an effort to attract 鈥渨orld-class candidates鈥 for the 16,000-student urban public research university.

Search committee member Robert Lewis, founder and president of The BASE, said the task ahead was identifying and recruiting candidates capable of leading 鈥渁 world-class institution for a world-class city.鈥

Expressing similar sentiments, UMass President Marty Meehan said, 鈥淯Mass Boston is in a great position to attract world-class candidates.鈥
