AMHERST, Mass. – The international team of astronomers of the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) mission – including eight from the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Amherst – who earlier this year unveiled the first direct image of a supermassive black hole and its shadow, were awarded the this month by the Breakthrough Prize Foundation founded by Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan, among others.
U.S. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ & World Report 2020 College Rankings released this week recognize UMass Dartmouth for the upward social mobility of its students and again rank the university as a National University. UMass Dartmouth, the only nationally ranked Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ doctoral research university located south of Boston, first moved into the national category in the 2017 edition of the rankings.

The facility, which is scheduled to be completed by mid-November, will feature a Celestron 14-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope on a heavy-duty computerized mount. It will provide high-resolution views of the craters and lava plains on the moon, the satellites of Jupiter and its cloud belts and the rings of Saturn, as well as star clusters, galaxies and nebulae light-years away.
