BOSTON – The James J. Karam Scholarship Fund has awarded scholarships to a total of twelve current and incoming �鶹��Ƶ students from the SouthCoast Region, including Greater Fall River, New Bedford, Fairhaven, and Dartmouth. These students will be attending UMass Amherst, Lowell, Boston, and Dartmouth.  The scholarships awarded this year totaled $60,000, providing $5,000 per student, and can be awarded to these students on an annual basis.

BOSTON – Five outstanding �鶹��Ƶ faculty have been awarded the 2023 Manning Prize for Excellence in Teaching for their exceptional dedication to students and the university. The faculty members — one from each UMass campus — will receive $10,000 awards in recognition of their deep commitment to academic excellence.

BOSTON - New technologies aimed at improving prostate cancer diagnosis, enhancing employment services for job seekers with disabilities, and optimizing clinical use treatments for melanoma patients could get closer to market thanks to $250,000 in seed funding announced today by the �鶹��Ƶ.

As we send off the 20,000-member �鶹��Ƶ Class of 2023, it is a good time to reflect on the immense impact of our five nationally ranked campuses.

�鶹��Ƶ early college initiatives are projected to increase enrollment to 913 this fall, a 50 percent increase in just the second year of the pilot program. These students will earn UMass course credits while still in high school, giving them a head start on their college education, acquainting them with college-level work and saving them money when they do go to college.

BOSTON, April 28, 2023 — On Friday, April 28th, the University of Boston �鶹��Ƶ dedicated its first residence hall in honor of Chancellor Emeritus Dr. J. Keith Motley and former first lady Angela Motley. Hosted by the �鶹��Ƶ, more than 400 people attended the ceremony to recognize the Motleys’ steadfast commitment to the university and their role as the driving force in expanding the on-campus residential experience for students. BOSTON – The �鶹��Ƶ research enterprise grew to $813 million in fiscal year 2022, an eight percent increase over the previous year, according to the five-campus system’s latest annual research report.

The �鶹��Ƶ awarded $395 million in university-generated financial aid this academic year – $22 million more than last year and $185 million more than a decade ago, with 81 percent of this aid going to �鶹��Ƶ residents who comprise 73 percent of the UMass 74,000-student community.

“Keeping a UMass education world-class and affordable is our highest priority,” UMass President Marty Meehan said. “As a driver of economic mobility for our students and the Commonwealth’s greatest single source of talent, this is our primary mission.”
